2017 MEN’S MAJOR SINGLES

Cory Daley has won his third consecutive Park Beach Major Singles Championship, adding to his club, district, zone and state achievements. Cory defeated a dogged opponent in Jim Phillips, a Grade 5 Pennants player who was taking part in his first Major Singles Final. Jim frustrated Cory in the early stages of the game, taking shot with his last bowl on many occasions. But Cory was in the zone later in the game, winning 31-17.
A good crowd was on hand, with strong support for both players.

2017 MEN’S MAJOR PAIRS

Kent Price (skip) and Craig Donaldson have taken out the 2017 Park Beach Major Pairs Championship after an enthralling contest against Rod Farmer and Rick Southam. After a slow start, Farmer and Southam rallied, and for most of the game there was little more than a shot or two between two teams with an armoury of shots for every occasion. At the end of the game, the scores were locked at 21-21, and an extra end was played. Craig Donaldson took the mat, and his first bowl was a wresting toucher. Rod Farmer replied by moving the jack, but it went to his opponents bowls, and Rod and Rick were unable to draw a shot, and Price and Donaldson won 22-21. It was a great game to watch, and there was a good crowd on hand to enjoy a quality game of bowls.

2017 Park Beach Major Fours Championship

Craig Donaldson’s team was simply too strong for its opponents Lennie Frail, Ross Kelly, Michael Ahoy and ‘Rummy’ Cutmore, leading comfortably from start to finish to take the 2017 Park Beach Major Fours Championship..

Craig led his team from the front, and was well supported by Brett Wellard, who is the Gaming and Beverage Manager at PBBC and a 2016 Pairs champion, 2015 Minor Singles winner Greg Campbell, and PBBC apprentice greenkeeper Harley Kirkland, who joined the club last year from Dubbo. Harley was a member of the winning team in the Alan Buchan Memorial Fours at Park Beach in January.

Craig Donaldson was recently appointed as Regional Bowls Manager in North East NSW, and will service 107 bowling clubs Kingscliff to Port Macquarie.

Donaldson, who joined the Park Beach Bowls Club in 2016 has been a bowler for 20 years and spent the last 10 years of his professional career working in business management.

He was formerly a member of powerhouse Sydney club Taren Point and also played Premier League at Moonee Ponds in Melbourne.

Donaldson was named NSW Male Bowler of the Year in 2014 after claiming the NSW State Triples title.

After his club Fours victory, he said he was keen to keep his team together to repeat the performance next year.

2016 Major Singles Champion

Cory Daley has retained his Park Beach Bowling Club Major Singles title, with a hard fought 31-26 victory in the 2016 championship final against Cameron Wills. Daley took an early lead, at one stage skipping out to an eleven point margin, but Wills fought back to trail by just a couple of shots before Daley finally prevailed.

In front of a good crowd, there was fierce rivalry in the game even though the two players are Park Beach team mates in the Grade One Pennants. Cameron is playing his first season at Park Beach, after moving across from the West Coffs club last year.

Daley paid tribute to his opponent after the game, saying that Wills is almost certain to have his name in the list of championship winners in the future.

“Just want to say congrats to my mate Cameron on a great match! First year at Parky and you’ve already made the singles and pairs finals and won the district fours! As far as I’m concerned you’re a Beach Boy through and through and will be for many years to come!”

2015 Park Beach Singles champion, Cory Daley, has added another club championship title to his name, after his team took out the final of the 2016 Park Beach Major Fours. The team of Josh Forbes (Lead), Ben Watson (2nd), Craig Donaldson (3rd) and Cory Daley (Skip) defeated Dale Condon, Peter Woodsell, John Bennett and Phil Toy 24-12 in an entertaining game of high quality bowls.

Craig Donaldson joined Park Beach late last year, after moving north from Sydney, where he played for the powerful Taren Point Club. He was named the 2015 NSW Bowler of the Year, and was encouraged to join Park Beach by Cory Daley, who has also represented NSW. Craig will represent Park Beach in the Grade 1 NSW Pennants season, and is expected to be a valuable addition to an already strong team.

Ben Watson joined Park Beach from West Coffs last year, and has quickly won a championship title at his new club.
